These iconic albums will take you back to the ’90s, a decade when youth culture was defined by its anti-establishment angst. The era boasted a remarkably varied collection of musical genres, including Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, Punk, Ska, and Grunge.
Nirvana shocked the industry and paved the way for the grunge movement. Green Day’s powerhouse album “Dookie” dominated the charts and defined the ‘90s punk movement. TLC was one of the most celebrated R&B groups of all time, transfixing audiences with a unique sound that led them to the top of the music game, banking hit after hit. When East Coast rapper The Notorious B.I.G. dropped his debut album, “Ready To Die”, hip-hop fans around the world stopped and took notice. Out on the West Coast, Tupac was releasing hit-laden gangster rap albums, and the East Coast/West Coast rap wars surged, leading to the wildly premature deaths of two of the finest rappers in the history of the game. Alanis Morissette became the 90s idol for angsty fem-rock with “Jagged Little Pill,” one of the best-selling albums of all time. Fiona Apple burst onto the scene with her angsty sound and heroin-chic style. No Doubt was the alternative/ska/pop/punk band the decade didn’t know it was missing. Frontwoman Gwen Stefani became the decade’s ska-punk princess, sporting her individual sound, signature red lips, platinum blonde hair, and Cali-punk style. When Britney Spears exploded onto the music scene, she hit it big, earning the coveted title of the Princess of Pop.
Needless to say, there was A LOT going on in the 90s music scene. We are rewinding to the albums that defined the decade. Also, what ’90s album list would be complete without the equally iconic Parental Advisory label attached to it? The ’90s was its own damn mood… Let’s throw it back.
