While most of you look forward to watching the big game, a select group of us wait patiently for the Superbowl Halftime Show. In honor of this year’s groundbreaking performance by the Chessmaster himself, Kendrick Lamar, we compiled a list of some of our favorite Halftime Show performances.

MICHEAL JACKSON: SUPER BOWL XXVII (1993)
This halftime show was so well-received that it has been said to be one of the most-watched events in the history of television. Michael Jackson took the Halftime Show and changed it from basic to badass. Future performers followed his lead following this showstopping performance. We can credit Jackson for being the first performer to understand that the Halftime Show was not meant to be just a performance but a spectacle.
